The Good Fight of Faith

Tonight as i was reading my devotional it was talking about spiritual godparents, it mentioned the relationship between the apostle Paul and Timothy. Then i came to the verse at the end of it and i opened up my bible to 1 Timothy 6:11-16. As I read through these verses, i was again struck by the beauty of the relationship between Paul and Timothy. It reminded me of those really good friends that we all need, to tell us those things that we don't necessarily want to hear, those things that may be true of us, or just to give us hard advice even when we don't want to hear it...but then we look back on that advice and we thank that person for giving it to us because without their "two cents" so to speak, we wouldn't have grown from that thing that we were struggling with. If you have one of those kind of friends in your life...don't let them go..because even though you may be sick of them always being right but telling you what you don't want to hear....i know from experience that you will thank them later. I have those kind of friends and you know what...I thank God everyday for them. It might not be just like Paul and Timothy, but it's still good. Now back to the verse--the part that really tugged at my heart was this part--"Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have confessed so well before so many witnesses" (verse 12) So remember..hold tightly to the eternal life  to which God has called you and soak up his word in the process!

"But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have confessed so well before many witnesses. And I charge you before God, who gives life to all, and before Christ Jesus, who gave a good testimony before Pontius Pilate, that you obey this command without wavering. Then no one can find fault with you from now until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.  For at just the right time Christ will be revealed from heaven by the blessed and only almighty God, the King of all kings and Lord of all lords.  He alone can never die, and he lives in light so brilliant that no human can approach him. No human eye has ever seen him, nor ever will. All honor and power to him forever! Amen."- 1 Timothy 6:11-16
