In the Garden

My devotional today was about Jesus in the Garden of Gesemene, here's what it had to say....
I'm continually awed by the parrallels between the old and new testaments, particularly the Gospels, Jesus knew exactly what he was doing with each symbol, each phrase, each carefully chosen word- and the authors of the Gospels recognized those parallels too. Take the Garden of Gethsemane, for example. Outside of Jerusalem was a garden on the Mount of olives that overlooked the city; and there Jesus prayed alone on his last night while his followers slept. The Passover meal was over; the soldiers were on their way with Judas to arrest Jesus and put him on trial in a midnight court. And meanwhile, Jesus could have run away. He could've fled the garden. He could've given in to the temptation to have run away. He could've fled the garden. He could've given in to the temptation to avoid doing what God wanted him to do. But he didn't. He obeyed. Unlike Adam, the first human being, who also faced temptation in a garden once upon a time..-Sarah Arthur.

This got me thinking about how much Jesus obeyed God and resisted the temptation to disobey. I know that there have been times in my life where it was hard to resit the temptation to disobey. But then i realize that God always comes through no matter if the answer is something that we like or not. Trusting in him is the best thing to do even when we don't want to. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding"- Proverbs 3:5. It's amazing how Jesus trusted God so much that he obeyed everything he asked of him...so good :)

Genesis 3:22-24 says...
"And the LORD God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”  So the LORD God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken.  After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life"

Luke 22:39-46 says..
Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him.  On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.”  He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed,  “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow.  “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”
