What am i "working on"?

My devotional the other day talked about working on things in your spiritual life here's what it had to say,
Periodically i become concerned that i am not working on anything  in my spiritual life, that i am not concentrating on a certain spiritual project, such as practicing the fruits of the spirit or holding my tongue or going through a prayer list. But perhaps that's not what i am being called to right now. Perhaps I'm simply being called to soak myself in scripture and other spiritual writings and to at least get my thoughts on paper. And maybe that is enough to marinate myself in these things for so long that in time i begin to take on their flavor-Sarah Arthur.
Eventually we do these things because the spirit is at work in us not because of some spiritual vow that we have made. I think that this is so true, even in the times when we think that what we are doing isn't making an impact on anyone. Personally i think that taking the time out of our day to marinate ourselves in the scriptures is a great way to be able to spend time with God is his word. Every morning i take time to spend with him alone and to just soak up his word and his presence. Just remember that no matter what your circumstances are at the moment God is still good despite those circumstances. He is still there to shower us with his grace and love.
Here's what the bible has to say...
Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,  for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose- Philippians 2:12-13
